Winter Warnings

Posted on: December 10th, 2013 by Seaside

With the oncoming major storm that will affect up to 25 states and bring a week long blast of below freezing temperatures, it is a good opportunity for us to warn our customers of potential winter perils.

Extreme low temperatures with winds can blast a building, freezing pipes even well inside the building perimeter. This happens even while heating systems are functioning as the cold blast can overcome the heat. Once the blast stops, the heat catches up, thawing the frozen pipe resulting in water damage.

If power lines go down, most properties using voice over the internet phone service will not allow the alarm systems to communicate out.

Once power is restored and phone modems come back to life, the alarms will not send signals that it had previously tried to send. The alarm will only be able to send new event information. So, if your heating system fails during a power outage, no one will know.

What steps can you take now?

If possible, be sure the water main is shut off.
Have someone who can check on your property during and after extreme events.

We would like to take this opportunity to wish all of our customers a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

Sincerely,
Staff and Families of Seaside Alarms
